new camera!

soooo, i got a new camera. i sold my cannon for $200 to my brother's friend and got a Nikon D40. it's pretty sweet, tho i'm having trouble with the manual/automatic focus. there's little switch on the lens that should allow me to move between the two, but it wont work. then if i set the mode within the camera, i still can't switch between the two. anyone know what i'm talking about or can help me with this?
